LAHORE: On the second day of the fourth session of Youth Provincial Assembly Punjab, members were briefed by Marva Khan, Teaching Fellow Shaikh Ahmed Hassan School of Law, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) about the legal aspects of Countering Violent Extremism in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion Marva briefed the YPAP members about legal architecture of Countering Violent Extremism in Pakistan especially Punjab and its implementation. Some of the major topics that she discussed were Twenty-first Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan, Emergency provisions an
d their types, Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), Protection of Pakistan Act, Anti-Terrorism Act, Right to Appe
al, Sunset Clause, Criminal Law, Punjab Vigilance Committees Act and the Cyber Crime Law. She also discussed about the Financing aspect of terrorism and extremism and how effective our existing laws have been in choking financial
support of terrorism/extremism.
Earlier in the day, YPAP members gave presentations about pro
files of their specific district during the plenary session. Districts pro
files included location importance, main tribes and casts, population statistics, literacy rate, employment rate, major sources of economic contribution, well known personalities (both in media/literature and Politics/Government), landmarks, most common problems persistent in each district an
d their recommended solutions.
The plenary session also saw a debate on the current issues of disappearance of the social activists, State of Human Right
s in the Province and Child Labour issues.
