ISLAMABAD: Renowned mountaineer Hassan Sadpara passed away in Rawalpindi.
Sadpara was diagnosed with blood cancer and was taken to a private hospital in Rawalpindi last week, but he lost his battle against cancer and passed away on Monday.
Arif, Sadpara’s son, pleaded the government to help the ailing mountaineer and as an outcome of the appeal, the Punjab government recently handed over a cheque worth Rs 2.5 million to Sadpara’s family.
The renowned mountaineer was the first Pakistani to climb eight of the world’s 14 tallest mountains including Mount Everest (8848m), K2 (8611m), Gasherbrum I (8080m), Gasherbrum II (8034m), Nanga Parbat (8126 m) and Broad Peak (8051m).
